Un viale di cipressi affiancato da vigneti conduce proprio davanti alla facciata della villa di Poggio Reale. Così chiamata perché nel 1829 vi soggiornò Leopoldo II, ricorda nella struttura la grande tradizione cinquecentesca fiorentina delle ville suburbane. I primi proprietari furono i Mormorai di Majano come è attestato da uno stemma scolpito in un portale del salone principale posto al piano terreno. Ristrutturata ampliamente nel corso del XVII secolo passò da residenza signorile di campagna a luogo di feste e ricevimenti. Verso la prima metà del XIX secolo vennero costruite: le grandiose cantine sotterranee della villa nelle quali attualmente sono presenti colossali tini e botti centenarie, una cappella a destra dell'edificio e contemporaneamente fu arricchito il parco circostante.
Divenuta patrimonio immobiliare della famosa azienda vinicola Chianti Spalletti fu ceduta nel 1988 al Comune di Rufina. La villa attualmente ospita il "Museo della vite e del vino" che espone oggetti di fabbricazione artigianale che illustrano le varie fasi della produzione vitivinicola e vanta una una raccolta di oltre 1500 tra volumi e documenti inerenti agli aspetti storici della vitivinicoltura
An avenue of cypress trees bordered by vineyards leads up to the front of the villa of Poggio Reale (the "royal" part of the name derives from the fact that Leopoldo II stayed here in 1829). This residence, designed in the typical style of the 16th-century out-of-town Florentine villas,
was originally owned by the Mormorai di Majano, as a crest sculpted on a doorway of the main downstairs hall recalls. Extensively renovated during the 17th century, the villa was transformed from
a noble country residence into a grand reception and banqueting hall. In the early part of the 19th century the villa's two large underground wine cellars were built - these still contain centuries-old vats and barrel - and a chapel situated
to the right of the building. At the same time the surrounding park was improved. After becoming the property of the Chianti Spalletti wine-making concern,
in 1988 the villa was sold to the town
of Rufina. Today the villa is home to the "Vine and Wine Museum", which boasts
a collection of over 1.500 books and records documenting various historical aspects of wine-growing, and displays
craft items used in the various stages of the wine-making process.
