Il nome della proprietà, appartenuta dalla fine del XVII secolo fino a tutt'oggi alla famiglia Cecchi, sembra derivare dal termine medievale "wardon" che significava "stare in guardia", infatti la sua posizione, sopraelevata, consente un'ampia vista sulla pianura circostante.
La facciata è caratterizzata da tre ordini di finestre e da un portale in pietra serena, sormontato dallo stemma di famiglia.
Il parco è composto da un grande prato che si apre di fronte alla villa, assumendo le sembianze di un balcone naturale, e sulla destra e sulla sinistra dell'edificio da due giardini, chiusi da mura, abbellite da statue in cotto. Il giardino di destra è un roseto, quello di sinistra è un classico giardino all'italiana, con vasca centrale, aiuole e siepi di bosso. Ambedue sono dotati di una propria limonaia. I due giardini sono collegati tra loro attraverso un passaggio ombroso, costellato da piante di camelie ed azalee, che si apre tra il muro di cinta e la facciata posteriore della villa.
Sul prato, a destra guardando la villa, si trova un antico pozzo mentre a sinistra è ubicato il cancello d'ingresso al boschetto e all'uccelliera. Il viale d'accesso alla villa è segnato da lecci e pini centenari.
The name of this property, which has belonged to the Cecchi family since the 17th century, is thought to derive from the medieval term wardon, or "keeping guard": in fact its raised position gives
a wide view over the surrounding plain. The façade has three rows of windows and a serena stone portal surmounted
by the family crest. The grounds consist of a large lawn which opens up in front of the villa as a kind of natural balcony and, to the left and to the right of the building, of two gardens enclosed by walls embellished with terracotta statues. To the right is a rose garden, to the left
a traditional Italian-style garden,
with a central pool, flower-beds and
box hedges. The two gardens, each of which have their own lemon-house,
are connected together by a shady
walk filled with camellias and azaleas, between the boundary wall and the
rear of the villa. An ancient well stands on the lawn, which is situated on the
right-hand side (as seen when facing
the villa), and on the left is the gate
that leads to the wood and the bird
trap. The avenue leading up to the
villa is lined with age-old pines and holm-oaks.
